NTUC Invited Us to Bring Asterion Outpost to Campus Legends 2026

NTUC has invited Web Wizards to present Asterion Outpost — the browser-based 3D game we built in-house — at a booth at Campus Legends 2026, free of charge. We did not pitch for the slot and we are not paying for the space. The game was seen, and the invitation followed.

What the invitation is

The arrangement is straightforward: NTUC approached us, offered a booth at Campus Legends 2026, and extended it at no cost. For a small studio, that distinction matters. Exhibition floor space is usually the single largest line item in an event budget, and it is the reason most independent teams never appear at one. Being asked to attend, rather than buying the right to, changes what the appearance means.

It is also a particular kind of feedback. A client paying for a website is telling you they trust you with their problem. An event organiser offering you floor space is telling you something different — that they think the thing you made is worth other people’s attention.

What we are bringing

The booth is the game, playable. Visitors sit down and take over as Operator Seven, defending an energy core on a floating alien island: mine Aster Crystals, spend them on walls and automated turrets, and hold the outpost against escalating waves of Shardlings. There is a jetpack, first- and third-person cameras, boss encounters, and an original soundtrack.

Nothing gets installed. Asterion Outpost runs in a web browser, which is the whole point of bringing it to a floor full of people who have three minutes to spare. A visitor walks up, plays, and walks away — and if they want to keep playing, the same URL works on their own laptop that evening. No download, no store, no account.

Why a browser game makes a good booth

It starts in secondsA booth queue has no patience for an installer or a launcher. A URL opens, the outpost loads, and the next person is already playing.

It runs on the hardware in the roomThe same build scales from a phone to a workstation, with graphics settings that can be adjusted without restarting. Whatever machine is on the table, the game meets it.

It travels home with the visitorMost booth experiences end when someone walks away. A web experience keeps its address, so the demo and the shareable link are the same thing.

It shows the work, not a description of it“We build interactive 3D” is a claim. Handing someone the controls is evidence, and it takes about ten seconds to deliver.

Getting it ready for a live floor

A demo in front of strangers is less forgiving than a demo over a video call. Nobody at a booth waits out a stutter or asks what went wrong — they hand back the mouse and keep walking. So the work leading up to the event went into the least glamorous part of the engine: making sure the game never stops to think.

Every character model the opening waves can field — each enemy caste, the squad operator rigs, and the turret hardware — is now built, configured and drawn during the loading screen rather than on the frame it first appears. The shader and shadow work that a GPU would otherwise do mid-fight is forced through up front, while the player is still looking at a progress bar. Anything that genuinely cannot be prepared in advance is assembled during the calm between waves, never during one.

The trade is deliberate: a longer wait once, in exchange for a session that stays smooth from the first shot to the last. On a show floor that is unambiguously the right way round.

The reusable part is not the game. It is the idea that a service which is hard to describe becomes easy to understand the moment someone can operate it themselves — at a booth, or on a website.
